oi.... ~blinks...blinks...~
Feb. 7th, 2004 06:16 pmSo. As the former Archmage of Earthsea said to his wife when she returned home overwhelmed from changing the world and didn't know where to begin telling him the story: "Tell it backwards."
~exhales~ My son is starting his nightly 18:00 wail. He's slept a lot today, so I don't expect any downtime tonight. A good thing tomorrow is Sunday. Thankfully, I'm at his greatgrandmother's, and she volunteered to look after him while I type here...
Last night, his grandmother looked after him while Adam and I celebrated my birthday with a full night's uninterrupted sleep.
I turned 21 on the 5th...an occasion marked by torrential rain, flooding, a sullen fit from my husband that lasted all bloody night, and a conversation with our friends in South Carolina. Liz wants me to be a bridesmaid for her in August!
My mom went home the 3rd after staying two weeks with us to get us settled into being parents. I'll get used to 02:00 and 04:00 feedings eventually...
Daemon Christopher was brought into the world at 10:27 AM on the 20th of January. He weighed 7 lbs, 11.8 oz and was 21" long. I was one day shy of my new moon/Aquarius hopes, but he's so adorable, I can't regret his timing at all.
Words of advice to anyone approaching childbirth: GET DRUGS. Natural childbirth is a marvellous idea, but then again, so is communism. Both of them look sweet and fluffy from the outside, but within ten minutes of actually experiencing the idea in action, the truth becomes clear... Besides, having the epidural in place early means all they have to do is up your dose when it's discovered that your little one has tangled himself in his cord and will have to be taken via c-section.
Which is another thing I highly recommend. Fifteen or twenty surreal minutes of feeling pushed and rocked, then the odd sucking sensation as your internal organs go back to their original marks, and *poof* you're a mom and it's all over but the stitching. Granted, the recovery means at least a week of begging folk not to make you laugh (or cry or sneeze or sit in cushy furniture), but hey--at least giving birth was peaceful!
So.
There's my month-in-review; how've the rest of you been?
