So last Saturday, Mark and Mom and Squeak and I went to the Tennessee Ren Faire.

As the TNRF goes, it was good. My boy "Shoo! Shoo 'way!"'d the Elisabeth, and my mother "Milady"d her. I saw all manner of culture and period brush up against eachother and writhe. Men threw knives and sang off key. Fairies spoke gutter NewYorkese to clear a path for Elizabethanesque upper class to walk through blessing the Queen. I watched broadly choreographed broadsword fights enacted with rapiers. Ma got a sunburn, Dae nearly stroked out, and I spent $20 on mhendi that dripped off my back within the halfhour.
Poor Mark had to put up with it all in the heat.

Remind me why I go to this thing?
SCA events are so much nicer by comparison.
And I'm comparing it to the one event I've ever camped at.
The one I had to hose the tent out after.

Oh, right.
The bodyart.

So for the past week, I've been devouring henna data like a Tribble after grain (extra points if you can tell me specifically what kind of grain; even Wiki is silent on this one, and although I've got a fragment of the chemical name floating in my head, I can't quite pin the lot of it down. Especially in my henna-induced haze.). Woad and Indigo data, too. (Woad's a hallucinogen? If it actually *was* used as body paint, now I think I understand why: See the Wee Folk, become a demigod, use WOAD fresh from the vat... Dyer's Woad's also a "pernicious weed" and illegal to intentionally grow in some states... Wonder if Alabama's one of 'em. Any plant that I can't kill's a friend of mine; so far it's English Ivy and that.)

Yeah.

All the craic about being a data junkie?
I just found out I wasn't kidding.
