5) The Successful Pyrographer* will be familiar and comfortable with the implement of his/her art, knowing its structure and maintenance as well as its use. S/He will also be familiar enough with the intended substrate to make reasonable guesses regarding its reaction to heat, so that the discovery that paperfluff sparks into tiny flame when touched to the iron is not answered with a surprised "SHIT!"

4) The Successful Pyrographer will have a dedicated workspace, steady, level, and clutter-free.

3) The Successful Pyrographer either has a safe place to rest his/her implement so that s/he may answer the cell-phone when it rings, or refuses to answer the damn phone. There is no juggling of phones, substrate, and smoking iron, not here, thank you kindly.

2) The Successful Pyrographer will have steady hands. VERY steady.

1) The Successful Pyrographer will have perfect 20/20 or better vision, or will wear eye wear fitted with lenses of the proper prescription to correct what vision s/he possesses. Said eye wear will fit comfortably and securely so that it may be seen through rather than over.

Now.
Let me re-introduce you to your blog girl:

Yeah.

Thankfully, nothing caught fire that I didn't mean to ignite, and no new burns were acquired by me or by Mark (who was lucky enough to be at work and unlucky enough to be the guy on the phone).

Zia, dear, your book's being an adventure. Thank you! :D

* Pyrography--that is, making pictures with fire/heat/smoke. In this case, woodburning...except...to paper. Yeah.
