...combing Tractor Supply in search of aluminium wire narrower than 18g so your wife can make light, inexpensive shiny objects that won't turn her neck green. How glad I am that Mark knows how to spoil me! :D

We didn't find any slender wire, alas; it'll have to be found online somewhere despite TSC's assurance that 20g Al wire exists in its stores. But still. I can do several things with the 18g we did find, and today I got a chance to.

I learnt how to flatten it without marring it. I learnt how to make it curve with a hammer (still need a lot of practice, though). I learnt how to hammer holes in it with an old icepick and a scrap of gauntlet leather so's to string it on slimmer wire (my kingdom for 20g & 24g Aluminium...). Someday that wire will be a jumpring or a wrapped loop on an earring or the bottom of a pretty bead. Someday. I can do it now. It can happen.

But best! I discovered the joy of following most of the instructions, and started a chain made of swirling links hammered flat in places.

Well, alright, second best.

Best--I spent today in the shop with four of my favourite people, and I was more than decoration.
