Dear Livejournal Gods:
I have my personal information privacy settings locked down exactly as tight as I want them. I've asked your site not to flash my journal around to search engines or your own front page. When you opened up the possibility of finding me via my e-mail address, I opted right out. When you gave me the option to see who surfs past my journal in exchange for being seen surfing, I said thanks but no.
I remember the Facebook thing that imported all of a linked blog's posts, yeah. Didn't sign up for that, either, mostly because I don't like how FB's privacy settings change on a need-to-know basis and they don't think their users need to know. I mean the things I post there to be public.
But here? No. I want this little corner of virtual space to be like some obscure minor demon with an easy to mispronounce name--hard to summon unless it talks to you first. I try to be very conscious of what breadcrumbs I leave between waking life and here. There are holes, yes, but I know where they are. I like knowing where they are.
When we said, "I wish LJ had a 'like' thumb," that is exactly what we meant. One tiny little thing to click that says "I appreciate this post or comment".
We--or at least I--did not mean we wanted tickyboxes everywhere asking whether we'd like to spread whatever we've been saying here in open and locked posts to Facebook and the world.
Well. Some us might've. Those of us who're 13 and haven't been stalked yet. Yet.
For the rest of us: can you please create some way to disable the possibility of this connection? Not just "Duh! Don't link your FB and LJ profiles!" No. More. I want to make a nice hard wall between my personal postings with the comments they generate and Facebook, no matter whether the commenters have linked their accounts.
At the very least, make that wall for locked posts.
Can we do that? Please? You would make at least two very happy users.
ETA: Ooop! See this? That's why I love this place. Thank you, you beautiful strangers! I'm off to test the hack out...
