Massive Update:

Big fat highlight: Boy oh boy was I wrong about this year's Llama... Jason Mraz was cool--his band, too; very gracious folk, with sleekly blended jazz and Mayeristic defiance-of-genre. Frankie Perez was just downright fun. But the diamond this year was Maktub. God only knows how you'd describe this lot. My best effort is, check them out here and here. Singularly psychadelic stuff, and this time, I *know* the music was the trip, because there wasn't enough pot in the air to make a bee buzz.
What else...Live's lead singer is a peaceful human to be within fifty feet of. Thank you and bless you, Caelen, for pummeling Adam with "The Dolphin's Cry" until I broke and bought the album. John Mayer's gotten to be a big name; the Grammy didn't drive that home, the impossibility of centrestage seating at 13:15 (when a- doors opened at 13:00 and b- he didn't go on till 19:00) and the hoards of "beautiful people" between 12 and 21 with "Marry Me!" scribbled on fans and butcher paper did. To think: three years ago, all he had was David LaBruyere on bass and a handful of non-Atlantaens spreading the word...now if you want any data at all, you've got to be a member of his "Local 83"... I can't help but feel a little betrayed. But hey, he's making his living, soaking the dream, yeah? Much as I love the music, I think I'll stick to paying my dues by buying CD's and concert tickets, though...
....Everclear... Mr. Alexakis will forever be a razor-smile in my heart for a) *not* giving the Dixie Chick who spoke her mind grief, b) hauling fans onstage to go-go dance, and c) refusing some chick that privelidge because "you showed me your bra. I could see my i>Mom's bra. No." Wonderful human.
AH! And Alana Davis! Katzchen, Val, if you haven't already found her music, look! Such a fine way to start Sunday's sets...
A couple of things pissed me off, though, and that's sad. For one, the lack of stoners. Not because I was after a secondhand buzz, although we all know that I won't stop breathing to avoid one... More because stoners are, for the most part, very laid back, generous people...and we could've used a few of those. I came closer to going off on complete strangers last weekend more often than I usually ever do. That's not exactly a place I enjoy going, especially when I'm in a supposedly excellent environment. So...
Ah. Last thing, a high note: if you're ever in Nashville, TN, go to the Old Spaghetti Factory. It's on 2nd Ave, between Commerce and Church. The prices are decent, and the atmosphere is warm and old. Quite comfortable.
Anyway, thanks for your patience, all.

Where are the peaceful hippies when you need em'?
Date: 2003-05-07 02:58 am (UTC)I'm sure you've heard our recent massive attack of tornadoes since Sunday, quite scary and it had me shaking like a leaf on Tuesday morning at work. We were supposed to be hit with one that morning and I owe it to my grams for praying for me, I'm so glad both of you are back safely.
