So...

I've spent the past 45 minutes or so sewing a book together. Nothing new. Trying out something with a tacket binding that doesn't leave strings waving in the breeze (because there're two things I can't stand: wavy strings and cut off ends inside a signature). It was going pretty well, too; look!

The hazards of symmetrical piercings

Looks like stuff I've done -- sooooo proud for figuring something out, and *pop* goes the bubble!

VERY nice touch on the threads, though!

~wry smile~ The good news is, it went back together quicker for having its piercings worked and my having practice. :D

And I'm getting ready to try to age some printed labels and mod-podge them to bottles. something I've never done, but if a 2nd grader can do it....waitaminnit....I may be getting over my head!

~claps belief!~ Coffee/tea staining, or actual ink? Mod-podge is a glorious thing; if sticking things to eachother makes you grin, that stuff'll have you dancing. It dries in a blink, though.

Will there be pictures?

Ink drizzles, I think -- poison labels onto amber bottles. And may singe an edge or two -- fire is fun! As long as it doesn't get out of hand!

Pix -- maybe.
The labels are open-source, so I shouldn't get in trouble, right?

Planning on selling them?

Then you should be good to go. Credit where it's due, if you post pics, but otherwise it's all good.

(Some things are lovely and free till it comes time to sell the bits and bobs you used the things on. I have at least one font that, while beautiful, would get me a stern talking to and a fine from a lovely and talented lady if I attempted to sell things bearing that-fonted text because I haven't invested in the rights to use it that way. Meanwhile, I can print, paint, decoupage, stencil, and engrave with that font all I like, so long as it's for my own use or for a gift. Profit is the kicker. And should be.)

Hmmm, so it might bo OK to use them in a swap-bot swap? 'Cause I don't get anything from the person I send TO...or is that splitting rabbits?

I'd say if in doubt, double check the place you got the labels to see whether there're terms of use anywhere. Those would be The Word.

(For myself? I'd ship 'em and with glee, partly because I've got a vaguely piratical bent but mostly because I figure swap=gift. Rarely is there "profit" involved, more often "break even". And hey, if your partner winds up selling what you've sent, let it be on THEIR heads!)

~grin~ No worries; I was giggling, too, once the cursing subsided.

Haven't had to scrap one yet, but it's come close. And it was oddly satisfying to cut those pretty blue cords.

The "fix" got done in about half the time the original did. Yah, practice, ah? :D

if only this were the US Mint, it would become highly collectible as a result.

it's beautiful, tho.

thank you. *smile*

And "collectible" was the first thing that went through my head. Swiftly followed by "no, that's a fuckup. Do that over." :D

The "fix" looks just the same, thank goodness, just right way up.

It's one of about 126 for [livejournal.com profile] brni, and his story The Evil Gazebo (http://brni.livejournal.com/334596.html). It's being an adventure, working on this; I'm thrilled. :)

Thank you for posting that! :D I'm sorry it happened to you, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was working in a library repairing a broken spine for one of my boss's personal books. Everything went great! Until he came to me later and pointed out that I'd put it back on upside-down.

~wince~ Oy. That must've been frustrating. Was it fixable?

(as a sidebar, I'm considering crossposting this one to the bookbinders' group; everybody shares their successes and etsy offerings; I want to see some screwups--THOSE are where I learn things. :D D'you think they'd stone me?)
