What I wouldn't give for a database of malfunction noises, so that when something breaks, you can hold your device's mic up to it and push a button, and after a second or two, see a suggestion.
Sounds like your machine's transmission has failed, or Sounds like your vehice is missing its catalytic converter! or Have you checked the attic for raccoons?

Not my idea, alas, but it's the kind of app I'd actually pay for...
And if we could figure out how to weed out the troll-contributions, we could set it up so users could record the various noises their whatever makes and then tag the noises with their causes... ~grin~ The database could get stronger and more accurate, and trips to the mechanic would get less frustrating.
"So you say yer car's Makin' Noises, huh, little lady? Aheh heh heh, what, uh, what KIND of noises? Couldja..heh. Couldja demonstrate?" (actual conversation I have had. >.<" )
