But the greatest of these is...

The longest nonplatonic relationship I've ever had lasted just shy of four years. I was estatically happy in it for roughly a quarter of its life.
Until that one, my record was a year and a half.
You get to feeling a little grim about your ability to sustain a relationship with a history like that.

Then you realise that it takes two people to really make an interaction. Any interaction. But particularly one in which the heart is involved.

Yesterday I quietly celebrated six months of having a *partner* in making things work. I don't want to get too noisy about it; I'm superstitious. You make a big deal about cosmically small milestones, you're asking the Great Author for some dramatic irony. And you know, as much as I love irony in a story or a rope scene, I think I've had about enough of it in waking life, thanks.

So we smile brightly at how quickly half a year can fly when spent in good company.
And then we fervently hope to spend more of the coming half-year in that good company.
And if, a half-year after that, both parties still agree that it is good company to keep, maybe a few more half-years will ensue.
Who knows.

I know this:
This half-year has been good.
And tomorrow's looking alright.
I'm happy.

and so he says...
